character information
name: Dante
canon: Devil May Cry
canon point: end of Devil May Cry 4
age: 30's

(canon) background: wikia page and Devil May Cry abridged

abilities: wikia power descriptions

Skill Sets
Combat skills – Dante is a natural fighter. He has grown up defending himself from angry demons who despise him for being half-human and connected to a traitor to demonkind, and as such has become skilled with a variety of weapons, both melee types and firearms of all sorts. He can wield new weapons with ease after just picking them up moments earlier, and even in unarmed combat shows exceptional ability. His accuracy and ability is advanced enough that he can “juggle” enemies by knocking them into the air and then firing repeatedly at them with his handguns so that they remain aloft.

Combat Knowledge -- He is also good at sizing up new opponents and gauging their abilities and weaknesses. Dante has come across new demons pretty often and demonstrated an ability to think on his feet, handling these challenges with finesse. He can also tell when he's dealing with demons because of his natural sense of demon power, although that may not translate to other energies.

Powers
Enhanced strength – His half-demon heritage gives Dante superhuman strength and agility. He can punch through solid stone and respond fast enough to catch bullets midair, as well as run up walls and leap down from stories high without any difficulty at all. He can use falling objects as platforms and resists both extreme heat and cold easily. He has sat on flaming objects and walked through blizzard weather with no sign of discomfort.

Enhanced speed – Dante can move at blinding speeds for short distances. Being part demon lets him move at speeds that rival top predators, and for short bursts he can move so fast that he appears to teleport from point to point.

Enhanced senses – Dante can smell blood and pinpoint sounds nearby similar to a predator. He doesn't have good range, but these senses usually tip him off to nearby demons before they strike. He sees pretty much like an average human would.

Healing – Demons are naturally more durable than humans. Dante can brush off injuries that would normally be fatal to humans and walk away minutes later. Bullets to the head, blades through the chest, and being thrown through solid objects with force that should shatter bone are all temporary inconveniences to him. The more he sustains injury, the longer it takes him to recover, so it is possible to seriously injure him over time, but he has to receive repeated mortal wounds to drain his natural healing ability. If he is hit with a normally killing blow, it usually incapacitates him for a few seconds before his body “revives” him and repairs the damage. But the worse the injuries are, the more effort it takes to repeatedly heal.

Demon energy – Dante can channel demon energy through his body. He can focus energy through his blade to create an aerial slash attack or strengthen his normal attacks. The ability to use demon energy also gives him the ability to manifest astral weapons. He manifests two forms of weapons: floating astral swords which he can telekinetically shoot toward enemies or use as floating defenses, and energy throwing glaives which he can also shoot at enemies. This is a more advanced power and cannot be used as often, as it requires a lot of energy to achieve.

Devil Trigger – The most advanced power in his arsenal is the ability to take demon form. This action is referred to as a Devil Trigger. For short periods when in battle (or when he's really angry) Dante can transform from human to demon, with his skin becoming armored. He grows fangs and claws with his healing activating as a kind of defense, but only for a few minutes of time. This takes quite a bit of demon energy to pull off, so it is a limited ability despite the advantages.

strengths:
Empathy - The demon with the heart of gold, one of Dante's notable traits in canon is his ability to empathize and love humans. Whether because of his upbringing or simply his half-breed genetics, this is where Dante gets his true strength. His will to protect others and willingness to help even those that fear and hate him are what power his tangible demonic abilities and give him the power to overcome impossible odds, as well as just get him through life. It's what lets him always know himself and therefore recognize the humanity (or lack thereof) in others.

Confidence - Dante is unnaturally cool under pressure. He shrugs off pressure like it's a joke, often making one as he does so, and handles being stabbed through the heart like it's a minor inconvenience. No one can say that he flinches when things get bad, and sometimes they do. Dante's level of confidence and easygoing nature make impending end of the world threats look like a trip to the grocery store.

Charm - Although he's often cheesy, Dante does have a particular sense of style and good-natured show that make him likeable. He's roguishly charismatic, handling challenges with a flair and even in his downtime can be fun and easy to get along with. Part of this is a conscious effort to appear less hostile since he is dangerous, and part of it is a show he puts on to get a desired reaction, whether it be sympathy, ease, information, or anything else. It's a more calculated effort than it appears to be and that is what really makes it an impressive strength.

weaknesses:
Laziness - The most obvious vice Dante has is his dedication to a lack of effort. Just glancing at his living space reveals a clutter that reflects his general approach to everything. He has a long-running pizza tab, can never manage finances, and in fact often winds up in more debt after taking a job rather than earning money from it. This also comes out in his behaviour toward other people. Dante will frequently just wander off rather than explain things, he tends to leave work to any other nearby capable people if he can, and apart from those serious world-ending situations, tends to be content to let things sort themselves out unless he's pushed into action. He doesn't really make an effort to integrate into normal human society either, simply not seeing a reason to work that hard at change.

Emotional Constipation - A sad victim of Manchild Protagonist Syndrome, Dante's lack of effort extends from a troubled background and a virtual truckload of family issues. These things also cause him to be rather aloof and slow to trust when it comes to other people. While defending the weak and helpless come easily, he's not likely to talk about his own problems or really open up to others until he's had ample time to get used to them. A lot like a cat, he remains forcibly indifferent to those he meets, acting immature and flippant in order to avoid dealing with any difficult or messy feelings he has. His outgoing charm and seemingly easygoing attitude are a front to keep his problems at bay, and actually trying to work seriously with him can be endlessly frustrating if he's feeling stubborn. He can be irresponsible and reckless because those are easier for him to rely on than letting himself be emotionally vulnerable. But that also means he struggles when it comes to growing up.

Bluntness - A counterpoint to his charm that routinely breaks the facade is Dante's blunt nature. A bit of a cynic at heart, even a constant effort to put up the charming front can't completely disguise his more honest opinions. This obviously more often manifests when he's frustrated or annoyed, but even in casual conversations sometimes he simply forgets to hold back. He'll lay out hard truths whether it is to friends, children, or anyone else he's talking to, and he can occasionally come off as harsh when discussing human nature.

job skills (optional): He eats pizza real good. He has a lot of mercenary skills and weapons expertise, being a demon hunter and half-demon. He's pretty, so if there's a job involving primarily standing around looking nice he can probably do that. Defending people and fighting are skills he has, but he's also thwarted by a chronic lack of motivation.

housing (optional): No preference!

Well, what have we got here?

[What the network has is a white-haired man in far too much red leather grinning into his device. He gives one long, low whistle.]

Pretty fancy place you got. Real party and everything. And with high-tech gadgets to spare. I don't know about a moon, but this must be some kind of paradise. Speaking of heaven, which one of you fine ladies wants to take a trip to the hot spring with me? I hear that's a real good time.

prose/action sample:

It's hard to say where Dante managed to get a guitar. A rumor is spreading and some people are convinced that he materialized it out of thin air, but he most likely just got it from someone else around the stage he's currently performing on. He's doing a pretty decent version of Thunderstruck, even though he could use some support to round out the sound. At least he's having fun.

"Oh, yeah. Everybody now."

As the guitar solo rises, he rears back, lifting the guitar, and somehow manages to send sparks shooting out of the headstock in a stream of glitter and flash that shower down harmlessly and dissipate as they touch down. He can't resist leaping from the stage to the top of a nearby awning, standing above the spectators as he abandons the instrument to bow with a flourish of his wrist.

"That, ladies and gentleman, is the show. Now that I've got you all warmed up, who's next on the list? I'm looking forward to seeing what other stops we can pull out. Don't be shy now. No pressure."
